An internationally renowned trombonist, Vincent Lepape is Principal Trombone of the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin, where he has been a member since 1994. For more than thirty years he has carried out an intense orchestral, chamber, solo and teaching activity.
Previously, he served as Trombone Solo playing second at the Opéra National de Paris, and was ranked suitable for the position of Principal Trombone at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He has worked regularly with some of the most prestigious European institutions, including the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de Paris, the Opéra de Lyon, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Cappella Andrea Barca under András Schiff, and many other international ensembles.
A graduate of the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and the CNSMDP (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris), where he was awarded First Prizes in Trombone and Chamber Music under the guidance of Jean Douay and Gilles Millière, Lepape is today regarded as a leading figure in trombone pedagogy.
He has served as Professor of Trombone at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Nice, after previous teaching roles at the prestigious Advanced Performance Program in Saluzzo, the Conservatoire de la Vallée d’Aoste, and the Conservatoire of the 15th arrondissement of Paris. He is regularly invited as a guest teacher by academies and institutions across Europe, the United States, Latin America and Asia, including the Juilliard School in New York, the Royal Conservatory of Liège, Ticino Musica, Spanish Brass Academy, the Haute École de Musique of Geneva and Lausanne, as well as many other international festivals and masterclasses.
Frequently called upon to serve on competition juries, he has participated in panels for institutions such as the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, the Schweizer Akademie für Musik und Musikpädagogik, the Haute École de Musique Neuchâtel–Geneva–Lausanne, and several other international competitions.
Alongside his orchestral career, Lepape maintains a significant solo career, touring internationally and premiering new works. Highlights include the Italian premiere of Ernest Bloch’s Symphonie pour trombone et orchestre with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Torino conducted by Alexander Anissimov, and Henri Tomasi’s Trombone Concerto with the Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino under Oksana Lyniv.
His discography includes recordings for Summit Records, Harmonia Mundi, Universal, Mark Records and others, in collaboration with world-renowned artists such as Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Stefan Schulz, the brass quintet Pentabrass, and the Quartetto Italiano di Tromboni.
Highly active in chamber music, he is founder of the Pentabrass brass quintet (with over 300 international concerts) and of the Quartetto Italiano di Tromboni. He has also taken part in the European Brass Orchestra conducted by Sylvain Cambreling, in a project supported by Pierre Boulez.
Throughout his career he has also held roles in artistic direction, including for the Accademia Europea del Trombone, the Masterbrass Academy, the Pentabrass Festival and the Lepape is Back Festival.
