Tomer Maschkowski, born in 1982 to an Israeli family in Rotterdam, began studying trombone with his grandfather Zvi Ostrowski, former member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. After studying at Codarts University, he continued his training at the Staatskapelle Berlin Academy and in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim, later completing a Master’s degree at the Universität der Künste Berlin in 2013 with Andreas Klein.
Since 2012, he has been the bass trombone of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and regularly collaborates with world-renowned orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Boston Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony.
Active as a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States and has been a member of acclaimed ensembles such as Trombone Unit Hannover and the International Trombone Ensemble. He is frequently invited to perform with the brass ensembles of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Lucerne Festival, and from 2025 he will be part of the Berlin Trombone Quartet.
Alongside his concert activity, he develops interdisciplinary projects such as the multimedia opera NO-MAD and the recital Sliding thru the Opera. A passionate educator, he teaches at the music universities of Hannover and Rostock and holds international masterclasses, sharing his experience with young trombonists around the world.
