Olivier Devaure has been the bass trombone of the Orchestre National de France since 2003 and, since 2007, a professor at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM). He is regularly invited to give masterclasses around the world and to teach at leading summer academies. Known for his commitment to expanding the bass trombone repertoire, he has collaborated with numerous composers — including Roger Boutry, Jérôme Naulais, Fabien Gabel, and Laurent Cuniot — who have written new works for him. Together with Joël Vaïsse, he premiered Double Jeu for tenor and bass trombone and wind orchestra in 2010, and he has also composed several concertos for bass trombone himself.
Before joining the Orchestre National de France, Devaure served as principal trombone of the Colonne Orchestra starting in 1999 and, from 2000, as bass trombone of the French National Police Orchestra, while also teaching at the Paris Regional Conservatoire. He is frequently invited to perform with major Parisian ensembles such as the Opéra de Paris Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre Philharmonique, and the Ensemble Intercontemporain, as well as with international ensembles, including orchestras conducted by Sir András Schiff.
