Jonas Bylund completed his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm in 1987 and immediately began a distinguished career as principal trombone of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Within just two years, he won two of the most prestigious international brass competitions: the CIEM in 1988 and the ARD Competition in Munich in 1989. He later served as principal trombone of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Bamberger Symphoniker. As a soloist, he has performed with some of Europe’s leading orchestras, including the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Alongside his orchestral and solo career, Bylund is also active as a conductor, collaborating with brass ensembles and symphony orchestras across Europe and the United States. Since 1995, he has been professor of trombone at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, and since 2016 he has also taught at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. His excellence in teaching was recognized in 2022 with the Neill Humfeld Award from the International Trombone Association.
